What is procrastination and how do you combat it? Learn why coaches need coaches too.

Many people go through life knowing what they need to do but never get doing it. Take me for example. I am an author and life coach. Now many have the idea in their heads that such people are perfect. After all an author has written a book, a coach coaches other people through life. But authors are as imperfect human beings as anyone else. The reason for their book is the mess in their own lives. However the content of their book is usually based on how they got out of their mess. So you would expect such a writer to have a better handle on things.

Well, to be fair, they do. But even a lot of such coaches, like this one, find themselves in a situation where they realize that were they to coach themselves they would not have allowed this to continue without a prompt to change. You see, I moved home just a week ago, and as I was going through papers and notes to determine what I need to throw away I came across a list of things I wanted to complete. On that list was the completion of a course based on my book, a course which today is not completed. When I looked at the date I was shocked. It was dated exactly a year ago.

Why is this? Why do we put things off and neglect those things which we have consciously deemed important. You have done the same. We all do it, over and over. I believe there are many great and noble ideas in the minds of many people which never even make it onto paper, and many of those which do make it onto paper, in the form of notes, diagrams and tables, never get any further. And then there are those ideas which actually make it into some form of execution or production but get abandoned before completion.

Do you own one of these ideas? Are you putting off something just because its an idea? Are you listening to the voices in your head which say, “You will never be able to do that,” “No one will believe you,” “It costs too much money,” “It takes too much time,” or “That’s a nice idea. Maybe someone someday will realize it.” Or the big one in my case, “I must do some more work on that.” But without a definite plan which we are determined to follow that thing gets pushed aside, and before you know it a year or maybe years have gone by leaving the task undone.

This is where coaches come in, or for coaches, being part of a mastermind group. So what does a coach tell you in this situation? Here are some points which may help you to get unstuck and move your project forward. Or, if your idea is still stuck in your head, these can help you get it unstuck and moved forward into execution.

1. Determine what it is you really want? It is pointless engaging in an activity to realize an idea if you are not overly convinced that it is a good idea. It must be something you really, really want. And it must be something which YOU want. Don’t want for someone else. Pick your own dream.

2. Decide you are going to do all it takes to get what you want? Without a decision your idea will never get out of your head. It will stay stuck and may even dissolve into forgetfulness.

3. Decide to start now, today. If you don’t, watch out, that idea is fading already.

4. Make a list of the steps you must take to reach your goal, realize your dream or make your idea a reality. Really take the time to work on this point. What must happen before you can reach your goal? What determines that your goal has been reached? What is the first step to get you started?

5. Break down that first step into smaller chunks. Really get it down to what you must do right now, this minute, in order to strike off step 1 as done.

6. Do step 1. Do it now.

7. Write down your result. If necessary repeat step 1 and if necessary go back to points 4 and 5 to reassess where you need to begin.

8. Move on to the next step and keep going until you have completed your project, reached your goal or realized your dream.

9. Pick a new goal and start at point 1.

10. Share your success story.

Coaches are need to motivate people with these steps. Often we hold back because of fear, the fear of failure or of not knowing what the outcome will be. At Jim’s Network, the online coaching community, you will find a selection of coaches. You will also be able to chat with them on the integrated social network. Why not drop by and tell us how you’re doing at reaching your goals?

“Competition is a sin.” - John D. Rockefeller

The unwillingness to explore alternative options creates the need for competition. As a competitor, intolerance is inevitable. You discriminate against those you regard as competitors, those who, in your opinion, have what you want. You are so focused on your opponent, new and better methods are ignored. If you treat your competitors this way, how do you think they’re treating you? Everyone wants a piece of the pie regardless of the cost. This mindset condemns the weak and timid in society. They’re viewed as indispensible and unworthy by the highly successful and competitive individuals.

When there is only one way, the path crowds with people trying to push themselves ahead of the line. A good analogy is a sale the day before Christmas. Time is limited and everyone wants the same item, so lines form and tempers flare. The moment the door opens, people push and shove to get what they want. Competition is a truly a selfish activity. The competitor wants to win and do so at the expense of all opponents. When you compete you are not thinking of the success of the others, but only of your own success. So often we want to take away from our competitor in order to gain more for ourselves. We see no other way. This comes from the mind set of limitation – there isn’t enough to go around.

In order to make profit we must also take the business away from our competitor. The story of the sale before Christmas is a simple example; a more subtle form of competition is among leadership positions. No matter the business or organization, whether it is a hospital, church, or sports team, it has a leader. Acquiring a leadership position is difficult and therefore these positions are coveted and treasured. This role brings with it an air of importance. In many instances, this new attitude changes their true self and creates a mindset of the need to protect their position. This mindset of competition creates an environment where anyone who demonstrates better qualities or has a better relationship with the staff, congregation, or team becomes a threat to the leader. This need to guard against potential threats causes the leader to treat their subordinates unkindly and with suspicion. As a result, every moment they’re fighting for their position by competing against those around them.

So it is in the interest of the leader, even if his job is to help others improve and advance, to prevent anyone else from gaining too much experience or too much influence, so as not to be a threat to the leader’s position and authority. Therefore they prevent promising individuals with productive and innovative ideas from advancing with the organization making sure they cannot break out and reach a higher level than them. They even convince them that it is a privilege to work for them. This is common tactic used to manipulate others into a false belief. In a religious setting, this is particularly dangerous.

It may not be a deliberate act to keep others in their place. But because of the competitive mind set there is the fear and thus the automatic reaction to keeping others in their place: “I am the leader, you are the follower”, “I get paid for this, you don’t”, “I know what’s best, that’s why I am the leader.” Most may not be so outwardly arrogant, but in the sub-conscious mind these thoughts linger and cause the feelings of fear of survival, thus producing the result of enforcing subordination. These thoughts result in manipulating the people into submission. The majority of society honestly has faith in their leaders. Leaders know this and misuse their position as they rule their flock. These leaders view themselves as deities and expect you to surrender your ego and give your devotion only to them. When this happens, you no longer control your life and your happiness is ruled by others.

This is a destructive path. Competition suffocates creativity, love, and kindness. In fact if you display any of these gifts you are looked on with envy. Is it any wonder that some just take a defeated surrender? They live in a grey existence, caring less about their life forcing them to live on a survival basis with no hope in sight. Feelings such as Uniqueness, importance, and worthiness are buried deep within. This absence of emotions pits every one against each other. How can there possibly be peace and friendly productivity in such an environment? This attitude permeates not only the business world, but also in sports, media, and religion. Why do so many different denominations of the same religion insist on evangelizing the areas dominated by other denominations? Competition! Competition is based on a lack of love. If you win the other loses. Your profits mean the other’s loss.

Leadership does not have to be like this. A leader should be leading people on and not holding a position to keep others back. A true leader will benefit when others rise to their level or even beyond – then the leader has fulfilled part of his position. A leader who hinders advancement for fear of his position is not leading but ruling. A ruler only has subjects who obey; a leader has fellows to show the way.

Have you ever felt like you don’t belong, you don’t fit in? Does your life constantly bang against the wall of conformity and crash against the common perception of life? This is what the authors of Wings of Change, Jim and Katharina Murdoch, were facing when their lives were turned upside down by unexpected events. How could life be any worse? Religion wasn’t meeting their needs, jobs weren’t meeting their needs, and to top it all along came a force which threatened to tear their family apart.

But they survived, not what could be said about their belief systems. “Our beliefs took a knock, a big knock,” says Jim. “One day we thought all our beliefs about God, life and the world were in order, then they were all turned on their head. Nothing has been the same since.” This was the turning point in their lives as they began to pursue the answers which had been avoiding them until now. And thus began a journey of discovery.

Their discoveries, uncovered independently as they each walked distinct paths, were complimentary and served to bind them together against all odds in spite of the forces threatening to pull them apart. Amazingly, their separate paths were uncovering the same truths and they found themselves agreeing more and more as they learned about God, the universe and consciousness.

The lessons they learned on their journey serve as an inspiration to the reader. You will read how they grew in awareness of who and what they are, how they learned to let go of old ways and paradigms and how to listen to their inner voice for guidance. The reader will benefit from their lessons of overcoming obstacles, daring to experiment with new ideas, realizing their purpose and acting on their new found truth to live the life they desire.

To help tell their story, Jim & Katharina have been inspired to adapt a parable to highlight each chapter. Using a family of geese they intriguingly blend in their life’s experiences into the geese’s life and their pursuit of happiness in learning the V formation and daring to fly south.

Katharina sums it up, “The readers will have fun. It’s inspiring and they will learn something for life. There is hope for anyone. No matter how bad a situation may be there is wonderful hope.”

Wings of Change – Discover a New Formation to Success will inspire you to take a new look at life and dare to be different.

A Paradigm is a mind-set, or mind pattern, or a set of ideas. For example, a long time ago it was a paradigm that the Earth was flat. That paradigm has changed. Another paradigm could be, “I can never be an artist,” or whatever. This paradigm also can be changed.

Paradigms determine how we think and react in given situations. Religion is a big paradigm, a given set of ideas. Science is a collection of other paradigms. Paradigms are all over the place, in our heads affecting the way we think. They determine our habits, our reactions, our actions, our thinking and even our feelings.

We learn to react and feel in certain ways when faced with certain situations. Someone stands on my toe, I may have learned to scream and fling out with my arm. Instead I can react much differently. Some may have learned to get angry or swear when something doesn’t go as expected, like it rains at the picnic, or a job is lost. These reactions can be different.

When you look at your life and how you answer people, react to news and circumstances, you will probably see a pattern which you can identify in many of the people around you. We learn to respond instead of react.

Another example of a paradigm is that illness comes form outside into my body. It is well researched and known that illness comes from within. Katharina, my wife, has studied kinesiology, which uses the muscle test to determine what the body has to say about the cause of an illness or emotional trauma, or stress. It is a method for tapping into the subconscious mind, which is, to keep it simple, a field of spiritual energy connecting us all together. It is known that our emotions, feelings over past events can cause illness, and when this cause is known the illness dissolves.

The Law of Attraction and the teaching surrounding this understands the presence of such a field of consciousness of which we are all a part. It is this consciousness which holds the universe together and has created this physical universe. Call it God if you like, it is the same thing. We are all joined or connected to God, and God dwells in each of us. This consciousness is part of our consciousness.

This is why it is possible to change the physical. The physical is controlled and subject to God, or Universal Consciousness. If we think and feel intensely enough we can change our environment. This is what makes miracles possible and healings. It is not a miracle, really, but appling other laws that exist in the universe.

Feelings, or emotion, is the language of this consciousness. It is our feelings which make things happen and can change our physical world. Consciousness isn’t limited by physical laws, it creates them, and the paradigms say this is a very physical problem and thinking can’t change it. This may be true in the physical realm, but in the spiritual realm, in the world of Universal Consciousness, in God’s realm, all things are possible.

Think of this as a kind of prayer, except you are not asking or begging, but making a clear and specific statement. “Ask the Father what you will and believe that you have it and it will be yours.” Jesus said this and it couldn’t be clearer. To sum it up, yes, healing is possible and it is our choice. Our thoughts and feelings determine the result. So what are we thinking and feeling? Maybe we need to change that in order to get the change we desire.

What is you desire? Are your thinking and your feelings getting you there?

What do these have in common: Taliban, Ulster, Iran, Israel, religion, work colleague and the next door neighbour? These are all areas of conflict, and they all boil down to non-acceptance, pride and animalistic awareness.

Think about it. Every area of conflict has one basic problem: one or both sides believe themselves to be right and in the right to do harm to the other side. We scold our children when they fight over toys, yet we accept the same adult behaviour which leads to fists, fighting and feuds. Why is it, that after hundreds of years, people persist in hating the other side? Why is it that we insist the other back down before we do? Don’t they see that when no one backs down that conflict will persist and fighting will continue and children will still get killed?

In this world we have those still acting out of a low state of awareness. They are unaware of the universal connection to all humans. They think themselves as separate entities and of their cause as their identity as an individual being belonging to an distinct group. They feel the need to protect this identity and are prepared to kill for it. And here’s the crunch – Not one of them, no matter which side they are on, is thinking their own thoughts and making their own decisions!

Every one of us has grown up with indoctrination. “Don’t do that!” “Do this!” “Don’t trust them!” “They are not nice people.” And so on. We learn as children to mistrust our fellow human beings simply because they were born to different parents who lived on the other side of the fence. So now they are are enemies and all we know is we must fight them to stop their evil from spreading. And that child on the other side is being taught exactly the same thing.

Mr. Taliban, Mr. Ulsterman, Mr. Iranian, Mr. Israeli, Mr. Palasitnian, Mr. Religious, Mr. Colleague, Mr. Neighbour, and you too, isn’t it time in this world of growing global consciousness to stop our childish, petty quarrels and learn to forgive? Isn’t it time to put aside the centuries old conflicts and outdated views and seek to help our neighbours and give them food, rather than bomb them out of existence.

And Mr. USA, isn’t it time you stopped bullying the world and attacking out of fear and mistrust, and started using your might to build schools, factories, food plants and educate the world to provide for his neighbour? Isn’t it time to turn our swords into ploughs, our tanks to tractors, our bombers into carriers of water and grain? Isn’t it time to make this planet a world of peace and prosperity for all?

For God’s sake and the sake of our children, grow up and stop pointing the finger. We’re no more perfect than the one being accused. Here’s why:

We are all one. All of us! Everyone, no one excluded. We are ALL one. We are living in a sea of energy and we are ourselves formed out of energy and we are all connected via energy. Everything I do effects you and the rest of the world and vice versa. Believe me, God, Jesus, Muhammed, Buddha, Krishna, King David and every other religious or political leader that ever lived are looking down on us right now and shaking their heads. They are urging us to remember their most important message: Love your neighbour as yourself – forgive one another – do good to those who abuse you – provide for the poor, the orphans and widows. If I kill another I kill part of myself. If I love another, no matter where he was born or what he believes, then I am healing myself and humanity.

Isn’t it time to wake up and recognise that the human race is unique and a part of something much greater than humanity? This is our testing ground. Will you mess up, or pass into global acceptance and universal love? What do you think? write a comment below.

Today I bought a chicken burger! No big deal right? A year I would have still bought the burger, but the money would weighed heavier in my hand. Two years ago I wouldn’t have give the money out. Apart from recovering from unemployment, my mindset at that time was NOT to SPEND. I had money but it was Sticky Money, you know, the kind that sticks to your purse or pocket and doesn’t want to go anywhere. We spent all of our lives up to that point trying not to spend money. We also made several attempts to save money, put it away for a rainy day. But the rainy day always came and used it up.

Now money flows easier. Not we we are over extravagant without reason. But we spend easier knowing that money, as an energy, needs to flow. And as it flows out it flows back. Whereas if money is held tightly it doesn’t flow, either out or in.

Many are setting new goals for the new year, like “glenerd“. We too. In fact this is the first time we actually sat down to define what we want. And whats more, we have learned and know that the goals we set we will reach, providing we take action towards those goals. One of our goals is a set amount of money. But our others goals are activities which will help us reach the financial target.

If you are setting goals for this year, and I recommend you do, then make them high and big enough to scare you. This is a good practice, for even if you miss you still reach more than without a goal. Define your goal precisely and describe it with feeling. Then allow your intuition to inspire you with ideas. Write them all down no matter how crazy or impossible they may seem. Now pick one and go for it.
